AboutAbout
This spring, Cardinals Wrestling Club offers training opportunities in all three wrestling styles--folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco Roman--for all middle school and high school boys and girls. Practices will be run out of Berlin High School's wrestling room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8pm through April and May.  CWC coaches will be at the spring USAW freestyle and Greco Roman qualifiers.

Established in 2015, the Cardinals Wrestling Club was formed by high school wrestling coaches to strengthen their high school teams' wrestling skills in a fun environment at an affordable cost. The coaches built the club knowing that high school wrestling success comes with a strong off-season commitment, which includes training in the Olympic styles of freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling; learning new and effective techniques from great coaches; drilling intensely with tough practice partners; and gaining great competition experience. CWC started as a spring and summer freestyle and Greco Roman training club for high schoolers. It grew to include opportunities for elite middle schoolers who were training for the OAC state series and who wanted to learn the off-season international styles of wrestling. Now, it also offers training for girls. CWC has charters through USA Wrestling-Ohio and is linked directly to Team Ohio, the Ohio AAU Junior Olympic Program.  CWC has had great numbers at all of its training sessions with a full range of weights and skill levels; thus, there is something for everyone.  Training sessions include technique instruction, drilling, and live wrestling.  CWC and CEWC travel to a number of competitions--local, state, and national.

Also, in 2017, CWC expanded to include opportunities for youth wrestlers.  Cardinals Elite Wrestling Club, is an in-season, tri-weekly training club for elite 4th-8th graders. CEWC is a travel competition club for the youth and an extra in-season training opportunity for middle school. CEWC operates in addition to area youth and middle school programs and trains through the OAC grade school and state series.  CEWC is run by NCAA DI All-American Mike Fickell out of the Berlin High School wrestling room.

MIDDLE SCHOOL IN-SEASON TRAINING NOTES: TRAINING WITH CEWC IS NOT IN VIOLATION OF ANY OHSAA OR OAC RULE. 7TH AND 8TH GRADE CEWC MEMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO TRAIN AND COMPETE WITH THEIR JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS. CEWC TRAINING SESSIONS ARE SIMPLY DESIGNED TO GIVE EXTRA, COMPETITIVE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES TO BETTER PREPARE ITS MEMBERS FOR THE OAC STATE TOURNAMENT, WHICH TAKES PLACE AFTER THE REGULAR JH SEASON.

New in 2022: CWC training opportunities for girls!  CWC has added gender specific training and coaching for HS and MS girls with the addition of a female coach. At spring practices, female wrestlers will learn the same technique, but they are not required to drill with or compete against males.
